Cardiac hybrid operating room in Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau (Barcelona)

With the colaboration of the Daniel Bravo Andreu Private Foundation, a new hybrid operating room focused on cardiology has been launched at the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau in Barcelona. The initiative seeks to take a high-impact technological leap and improve the patient’s experience throughout their therapeutic journey.

The action, focused on the implementation and monitoring of cardiac devices such as pacemakers and implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICD) , allows Sant Pau Hospital to make a step forward in the management and remote monitoring of patients. The state-of-the-art hybrid interventional room is an operating room with a high-performance radiological imaging arch, extracorporeal blood circulation systems, advanced ultrasound and anaesthesia equipment that allow full monitoring and follow-up in highly complex procedures. The Daniel Bravo Andreu Private Foundation also promoted the patient perception as the main driver for designing both areas, hybrid operating room and family support rooms: they are spaces designed to live emotionally intense moments in the most humane possible way.

In addition to he operating facilities, the Daniel Bravo Andreu Private Foundation has provided communication and high definition transmission equipment to facilitate teaching and updating courses about implantation methods to local hospitals and global specialists. Advanced communication systems will also improve and strengthen the relationship with Primary Care by creating new dynamics between teams and specialists in the public health system.

The Foundation equipped Sant Pau Hospital with the necessary resources to face a multiple challenge:
• increase the quality of care and the patient experience
• monitor pacemaker performance by optimizing the use of all recorded data
• establish a model that personalizes and chooses the most suitable device for each type of patient and pathology

These were and are the objectives of the European RITMOCORE project, an innovative project coordinated by AQuAS with the prominent participation of the Hospital de Sant Pau and the Hospital Universitario de Bellvitge.

With this collaboration, the Daniel Bravo Andreu Private Foundation impulses, once again, high-impact projects tracing the path of excellence in universal health care in Catalonia.
