Thanks to the collaboration of the Daniel Bravo Andreu Private Foundation, the new Advanced Cardiac Imaging Unit has been launched at the University Hospital of Girona Doctor Josep Trueta. This is a Unit of excellence and high specialization that will cover patients with cardiac pathologies in the Girona region.
The project has been carried out so that the Hospital can respond both to current and future care needs and to initiate new ways of teaching and researching in cardiology science.
The Daniel Bravo Andreu Private Foundation wanted to help the Josep Trueta Hospital in a key area for cardiology, such as imaging. The project has three pillars:
• Incorporation of new equipment: The foundation adquired and deliverde of 3 latest generation echocardiography with 8 probes to perform specific transthoracic and transoesophageal studies for adults and children. In this equipment, software based on artificial intelligence has been installed that allows diagnosis, monitoring and investigation to be carried out more agile and safe. It has also been ensured to enable interconnectivity with other regional centres and hospitals in an innovative collaborative project.
• Renewal of spaces: The new Unit, located on the 7th floor of the centre, now has 10 test cabinets, a patient recovery and observation area, and two work areas to assess heart studies. In short, larger spaces, comfortable, efficient and appropriate to the needs of users and professionals
• Creation of a pioneering training program: In order to make the Josep Trueta Hospital an attraction pole to train cardiologists specialized in cardiac imaging techniques and support other professionals in the territory, the Daniel Bravo Andreu Private Foundation has promoted a program of Pioneer specialist training throughout the State. Currently the program or fellowship is in the accreditation phase by the University of Girona and in the coming months will be launched in its first call.
The Josep Trueta Hospital is a reference hospital centre of the Girona region serving directly a large population and indirectly supporting small regional hospitals.
Non-invasive cardiac imaging techniques such as echocardiography (or cardiac ultrasound) have become a key piece in the diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases in providing abundant information about the functioning and structural characteristics of the heart. In recent years this technology has evolved and evolves at high speed becoming an essential equipment to make rapid diagnosis in many cardiovascular diseases.
